A four acre home in Donegal that was originally worth almost €1million had its price slashed to just €250,000 — because of mica damage.

Moorfield Lodge in Donegal is a truly stunning home — offering four double en-suite bedrooms and its own stables, being used as a B&B that was perfect for people looking for some time off when visiting Donegal.

The truly stunning property also offers fantastic views of Lough Swilly in the distance, and with a minimalist open plan design, this is truly a hidden gem in a beautiful county.

While it originally went on the market for €895,000 in 2019 however, the starting price for the auction of the house is just €250,000 –28% of its initial price.

This is due to this house, like many in Donegal, being infested with Mica bricks in a scandal that has affected over 5,000 homes.

Sherry Fitzgerald, the auctioneers of the house, said in their report that the levels of mica are ‘very high,’ and bidders should carry out their own inspection of the house before placing a bid.

‘Please note the vendor has had the concrete blocks tested for Free MICA Muscovite,’ the listing said. ‘It has been confirmed that high levels of Free MICA Muscovite are present in the blocks.

‘All intending purchasers should make their own structural and financial investigations in view of this information prior to auction.’

Outside of the Mica problem, the house itself boasts a two car garage, wonderful manicured gardens and an incredible master bedroom, which includes a wonderful en suite complete with jacuzzi bath, relaxing area and low level windows to enjoy the wonderful views.

Moorfield Lodge in Aughnagaddy, Co Donegal is going up for auction on June 1, with a starting asking price of €250,000.
