Capital City Community Band to host 'Cinemagical, Movie Music' spring concert | Carson City Nevada News - Carson Now

The Capital City Community Band is having a concert on Sunday, May 22 at 4 p.m. at the Legislative Mall Amphitheater, behind the Nevada Supreme Court in Carson City.

The concert is called “Movie Music” and will feature songs from beloved films such as The Wizard of Oz, Jurassic Park, The Sound of Music, Annie, and Star Trek.

The Capital City Community Band, under the direction of Nick Jacques, is in its 45th season of sharing music with our community. This concert is free to attend, so bring the family and some popcorn for an afternoon of Movie Music!

The Carson Farmers Market is kicking off the summer of 2022 with the best place to get the freshest produce, honey, baked goods, jams, and artisan goods in Carson City.

The Farmers Market will begin this Saturday, June 4 and runs every Saturday through the first weekend in October from 8:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.

The Annual Stewart Father’s Day Powwow was canceled last year due to COVID-19, but is returning this year along with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony of the Stewart Indian School Cultural Center and Museum.

The annual powwow is free and open to the public, and includes food vendors, competition dancing, arts and crafts vendors, and dry camping.

CARSON CITY — The 2022 Primary Election is just around the corner and so is the summer weather. As the days get warmer, more organized events will take place at Mills Park, including voting, that may make for crowded parking areas during polling hours.

Unsettled weather is expected for the Carson City area and Lake Tahoe region through the upcoming Memorial Day holiday weekend, with widespread breezy to windy conditions through Saturday and temperatures cooling to below normal, according to the National Weather Service.

Beginning Friday, May 27, Sand Harbor at Lake Tahoe will open at 7 a.m. to help ease traffic congestion on Highway 28. Visitors are advised to arrive at or after opening time. There is limited space to wait for the park to open. Vehicles parked on the shoulder or blocking the highway may receive a citation.

UPDATE 4:18PM: According to Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon, there was an electrical short that burned a small section of insulation on the fire truck, which is now at the fleet division where they are investigating the cause of the short. Damage appears to be very minor.

CARSON CITY — Fourteen Carson High School Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) recently attended and participated at the State Business Leadership Conference in Reno, where they walked away with 26 top 10 finishes in business career related events.
