The Minister of Agriculture declined to say when the Cabinet will consider a highly anticipated government proposal for a mica remediation plan.

Donegal TD Charlie McConalogue, whose constituency has been at the center of the mica crisis, said on Sunday that he believes that any proposal submitted to the cabinet will bring homeowners 100% compensation.

However, he could not say when the long-awaited plan will be submitted to the Cabinet for approval.

Defective building blocks containing too much mineral mica deposits have caused thousands of properties across the country to begin to collapse.

It is estimated that 5,000 houses in Co Donegal are affected. It is understood that there are thousands of houses in Sligo, Clare and Limerick counties that have problems. Activists are calling for 100% remediation by the government.

McConalogue said on Sunday: "The government has been involved in the past few weeks to finalize the plan and ensure that the details are correct."

"The key goal is to ensure that the plans we implement are correct, well thought out, and cover all the different aspects of support that homeowners need."

He said he is in contact with Housing Minister Darragh O'Brien and other ministers on the form of the final plan.

He said: "We don't want to make mistakes and submit the specific time to the cabinet."

"Everyone is working hard to ensure that it is submitted to the Cabinet as soon as possible.

"The homeowner wants us to make sure that the plan is correct and will stand the test of time."

He said he expects the plan to be submitted to the Cabinet "soon" and reiterated his support for a plan that meets the demands of the candidates.

"I absolutely believe that it must be 100%. This is the goal that I worked hard to achieve with Minister O'Brien. I believe that we will get a plan that can achieve this goal."
